As Governor of Texas, I am pleased that Black Enterprise Magazine has chosen to showcase "Doing Business Texas Style."

The Lone Star State is a leader in the charge toward economic renewal and continued prosperity. Our diverse economy ranges widely, from a traditional base of oil and gas and real estate to emerging industries like high-tech and biotechnology. Our assets are many. We have the lowest tax burden on business, no personal income tax, and more Fortune 500 companies than just about any other state in the nation. Our infrastructure, geographic location and business climate are optimal for companies seeking to expand. Employers have access to vast resources instrumental to their companies' ability to grow and prosper, including a well-educated, skilled workforce.

The state also is greatly enriched by the many diverse voices that call Texas home. Texas is rich with history ranging from the 27 different ethnic groups--including African-Americans, Hispanics, Native-Americans and Anglos--who founded the state almost 170 years ago to today when Texans from all cultures continue to forge new opportunities.
